Hola compañeros, como Silvia y yo sabemos las tiendas donde van las fotos sugiero que hagamos 3 equipos, uno que vaya con Silvia, otro conmigo y otro que vaya poniendo en las paredes. Para eso hemos comprado varias unidades de cada herramienta necesaria. Sabemos qué tiendas quieren una, cuales estaban todavía dudando si poner o no... etc.

Veinte participantes, muchos de ellos vecinos de Lavapiés, hemos ayudado a Zoe, fotógrafa de Filadelfia, a mostrar su obra por primera vez en España. Al igual que el barrio, el taller ha sido un mosaico formado por personas de diferentes lugares y ámbitos, una diversidad que ha dado como resultado una explosiva mezcla de ideas.

Hemos servido de puente entre el barrio y Zoe, hemos salido a buscar los espacios más adecuados para exponer su obra, echándole una mano con su español y retratando tanto el barrio como su proceso creativo.

A cambio hemos aprendido de su obra, y de su generosa y entusiasta visión del mundo.

Durante las dos últimas semanas ha tenido lugar en La Casa Encendida el taller Hola. Cómo estás?, con el objetivo de comisariar la exposición de la fotógrafa estadounidense Zoe Strauss. El resultado puede verse en el barrio de Lavapiés a modo de gran museo abierto.

La accesibilidad del arte es uno de los principales temas en la obra de la fotógrafa, quien encuentra en este barrio madrileño un lugar muy cercano a los suburbios de Filadelfia donde suele crear y exponer. Lavapiés no es una casualidad, sino la elección lógica de un escenario en diálogo directo con las imágenes tomadas.

En este proceso, los participantes han retratado un Lavapiés tamizado por el objetivo conceptual de Strauss, erigiéndose el barrio en protagonista de las fotografías realizadas durante el taller.

Lavapiés, por tanto, como único escenario posible de la exposición y como centro de las veinte miradas de Zoe Strauss.

During the past two weeks has taken place in the workshop Encendida House Hello. How are you?, With the aim of curating the exhibition of American photographer Zoe Strauss. The result can be seen in the neighborhood of Lavapies as a great museum open.

The accessibility of art is one of the main themes in the work of photographer, who finds in the Madrid district a place very close to the suburbs of Philadelphia where it tends to create and exhibit. Footbath is not an accident but the logical choice of a scenario in direct dialogue with the images taken.

In this process, participants have portrayed a Footbath sifted through the conceptual goal of Strauss, erecting a neighborhood star of the photographs taken during the workshop.

Footbath, therefore, the only scenario for exposure and center for all twenty eyes of Zoe Strauss.

All photos have been approved, but they want you to put it on cardboard or a carton of some kind... someone will be there at six to explain.

1. I have to reconfigure the slideshow today, which is about a minimum 12 hour job.

Hello people, i couldn't do anything about the blog today because i was making the final for the vinil. I sent to you, but anyway i wanted to put some photos of the stuff we made yesterday so we can document the crazy process!. By the way I have to say sorry and thank you to Zoe because of the freedom she is giving to us, and the patience with our difficulties for deciding stuff. Sometimes I think we spend more time with our work than with hers. I think I am learning more about social groups than ever!.

Tomorrow i will spend some time with the blog.

Hi everybody,

we finally selected about 40 pictures for the poster and divided them in three folder A3, A5 and A6. They are all on Zoe's HD. The pictures have different resolution and different sizes, before printing them we should probably assign them the same resolution and definitely resize them accordingly to the paper size.

Who is gonna do that? Zoe, will you do that such that they can be printed tomorrow morning/early afternoon and brought to the taller in order to decide the final layout? How can we do?

Buenos Dias, mi amigos! Right to work, right to work.

1. You guys have to make your own prints for the show and I am giving 100 euros to do it. 2. I am very happy with the adhesion test for the outside photos. I think the brown craft paper looked amazing. It's fully appropriate as a defining separation from the wheat pasted posters and allows enough of the background images to show through. And, thanks to Aitor and Sylvia, there's a number of stores to put the photos in! On Friday, we'll begin installation in the store windows and on Saturday do the exterior paste up.

3. Today we need to nail down what supplies are needed for Saturday, the sizes of the windows that will get the brown craft paper. I need to know the store where Julien got the supplies and we need to triple them. We also need a "enjugador de goma"

Picasso’s painting commemorates a small Basque village bombed by German forces in April 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. The painter, in desolate black, white and grey, depicts a nightmarish scene of men, women, children and animals under bombardment. Can someone please make a comprehensive list of everything that has to get done? Tomorrow we should have the schedule for the rest of the class locked down. This is going to be awesome.

And hello again... so another thing I would LOVE to do is a little series on the residents of this apartment building... I have been fascinated by it since Julien and I went there and met with the lady with all the animals. A couple of things have stuck in my mind since that first visit but the biggest one is that the neighbors seemed to come in and out of each others apartments. Also, the mix of people in that building is amazing.

If anyone has an idea of how to help me approach the residents and tell them that I want to do a series on the residents and their apartments, I would be forever in your debt. This can't happen for the exhibit, except for the slideshow, but I know I can knock the ball out of the fucking park if I could photograph there.

Hello, hello mi amigos.

1. The theater doors are a great sight line and I was wondering if we can ask for no parking in front of theater doors for the night of the show? And should we ask the theater to use those doors for the night or just go for it?

2. We need white glue or another water soluble adhesive, double sided tape and large sheets of white or "natural" colored paper. Can this all be gotten at Artesania Chopo or is there a better place? And what about a roll of craft paper? That might be cheap and get the job done. Or whitewash over the posters where the small ones are going? Can someone help me out with getting these supplies? I've got cash for them!

3. Can the places to hang the big photos be firm by Tuesday?

4. In terms of the smaller ones, I think we have to have a test run on Tuesday, with paper and glue and tape to see how it will hold up for the night.

5. Lucia will know for sure about the Solar tomorrow, and when she has confirmation, we can work on electricity for the projector. Also, it will be amazing to get into that spot to have a sense how the show can be set up.

with a CD or pendrive it is fine.
also...the prints will have a white line on the borders, i guess you know but just in case, so it is important to have all the pictures with the same size (A3 or A4) so they can cut after printing easyly almost all toghether at the same time.
i am going to print 1 today to test

two suggestions:

1_zoe, do you have any idea of how do you want to locate the a3/a4 pictures? maybe (just maybe, this is just brainstorming) it could be ok if the pictures could suggest the exterior itinerary like little "image tips". if that´s a linear thing it would be easier to appeal people or attract attention, so it would be impossible not to see them, since isolated spots are more improbable to get by and the size it´s kind of small.

so the idea could be 5 isolated spots for the really big pictures and a linear itinerary between them marked by the little ones. and when a certain time arrives maybe people can take them home (just the same at in i-95).

2_ i can draw a map in autocad for a flyer or whatever to suggest the itinerary(i have a madrid map autocad file)

I am now working my ass off on reordering the slideshow and picking the spots for the large image displays. Many things, many things. But first and foremost, thanks for working so hard on this. It means a lot to me.

I have to do some more shooting for sure and I was hoping that Lavapies folks could possible help me with translation so I can make some photos of people in the Plaza Lavapies, particularly the old folks who sit out everyday. I can ask to make the photo but it's too difficult to answer why in a succinct way. If someone could help me out tomorrow or Friday night, I would be eternally grateful. Ahora estoy trabajando mi culo, que reordenan el pase de diapositivas y elegir los puntos para la muestra la imagen de gran tamaño. Muchas cosas, muchas cosas. Pero, ante todo, gracias por trabajar tan duro en esto. Significa mucho para mí.

Tengo que hacer algo más de rodaje seguro y yo estaba esperando que la gente de Lavapiés posible me podría ayudar con la traducción para que yo pueda hacer algunas fotos de personas en la Plaza de Lavapiés, en particular los ancianos que se sientan a cabo todos los días. Puedo pedir para hacer la foto, pero es muy difícil de contestar por qué de una manera sucinta. Si alguien pudiera ayudarme a salir mañana o el viernes por la noche, estaré eternamente agradecido. Por favor, si alguien sabe de los gemelos PLEASE HELP ME reunirse con ellos para hacer algunas fotos de ellos. I LOVE THEM!

example idea for the periodico

Hola gente!

Aqui ando yo pensando que estaba antes en el taller y me llevé el ordenador para poder crear una idea general de lo que tengo yo en la cabeza cuando digo lo de crear una página que sea sólo texto.

He de decir que soy diseñadora, lo cual me hace pensar en términos de maquetación y de texto como un arte en sí mismo, es decir, como una expresión estética como lo puede ser una foto.

Razones que esgrimo para usarlo:

- Es un complemento al trabajo de Zoe. Además esta idea es resultado de pensar qué me ha aportado a mí hacer el curso, qué me está aportando. y lo que me llevo en realidad son las historias que ella cuenta de su propio proceso creativo. En ese proceso entran las historias que ella tiene con la gente, lo que intercambia con ellos, que es parte de cómo es ella, y de cómo se relaciona con el mundo y que se expresa de sobra en una foto sin necesidad de más explicaicones ( o más que en una foto, en el conjunto de todas ellas) . A pesar de que se expresan solas las fotos, el conocerla y poder escuchar las historias de su boca me parece un intercambio muy bonito que te permite acercarte de otra manera a la foto. Poner los textos sería para mí como un símbolo de lo que he aprendido con ella, esas historias que uno tiene cuando se atreve a salir a la calle y hablar con desconocidos.

- Poner fotos nuestras no le veo mucho sentido. Le vería sentido si hubiéramos seguido un proceso fotográfico con ella durante el taller. Pero no es así, estamos siguiendo un proceso de comisariado que por alguna extraña razón no nos imparte ningún comisario (??).

- Llegados a este punto quizás no tenga sentido usar las fotos realizadas durante el taller por lavapiés, sino fotos nuestras de nuestro propio archivo que tengan una historia detrás bonita que contar.

Bueno, por ahora no tengo más que decir, que ya os he dado el coñazo un buen rato, comentarme qué os parece, porque creo que hay que decidirlo pronto.

Aquí os dejo el ejemplito que he hecho con las cuatro frases que se me han ocurrido.

Hello people!

Here I'm thinking it was earlier in the workshop and took the computer to create a general idea of what I have in my head when I say how to create a page that is text only.

I must say I am a designer, which makes me think in terms of layout and text as an art in itself, ie as an aesthetic expression as it can be a photo.

Reasons they gave for use:

- It complements the work of Zoe. Furthermore, this idea is the result of what I think has brought me to the course, what is bringing me. and what I am in fact are the stories she tells of her own creative process. In the process enters the stories she has with people, which exchanges with them, which is part of how she is, and how it relates to the world and is expressed very well in a photograph without further explicaicones ( or more than one photo, throughout all of them). Although the photos are expressed alone, the knowledge and power to hear the stories of his mouth seems to me a very nice exchange that lets you get closer otherwise the photo. Put the texts would be to me as a symbol of what I learned with her, those stories that one gets when one dares to go out and talk to strangers.

- Put pictures of us do not see much sense. It would make sense if we'd kept a photographic process with it during the workshop. Not so, we are following a process of curating that for some strange reason, gives us no commissioner (??).

- At this point you may not make sense to use the photos taken during the workshop for footbaths, but pictures of us in our own file with a nice back story to tell.

2_ I think it would really be great if there was a guiding map in La Casa Encendida on September 19th so people who enter on the interior exhibition know exactly where they can go or which tour they "should" take if they want to experiment the events outside. It could be a funny and coloured map with icons and so on, despite they can find the way in the newspaper.

1_ in relation to the newspaper, i really don´t think it should seem crowded. also it depends on what we want to show. if everybody wants to show a really good picture it will result a mess. anyway if what we want is a "story", or a "plot", or a "game", an "explanation"...then we really don´t need space for 20 big pictures at high resolution.

these are some images of architectural competition panels ("urban acción 2" competition) which tell a story about the city and i think they are totally understandable.

another place to hung one of the big pictures is calle sombrerete nº 4, there are 2 closed stores with abandon building, and it is one block away the plaza next to the library, could be a nice walk starting in: la casa encendida, then lavapies plaza with the slides on the teather wall, tribulete carrefour wall, meson de paredes the library plaza, and sombrerete st. and again lavapies plaza.
